The stunning truth of
twenty-five years of
marriage
We are not the happiest
We are not the best
We are weary
But we made it
We are companions
Nerds in arms
Matched through abandonment
Our psyches intertwined
There can be no others
For who else would tolerate us
Our quirks
Our eccentricities
It may take courage to walk away from a marriage
But it takes spunk and grit,
audacity and tenacity,
heroism and determination, endurance and fortitude,
spirit, nerve, backbone, guts and pluck to stay
To raise children
To launch them
To share what is good in us
And place it in the future
We've ventured forth
Reached twenty-five years
We've stubbed our toes
Tripped and fallen
But we've relished, savored, delighted and enjoyed.
And then he said to his wife let me take you to the Autry.
And then she said to her husband I'd love to go.
And that's how it's done.
